29-30 Weeks Pregnant – Symptoms, Body Changes, Bump Update – Pregnancy Diary
Reaching 29-30 weeks of being pregnant with my second baby feels like a big milestone.
As soon as I hit the 30 week mark, I feel a countdown starting in my head, counting down the days until the due date.
At this point, I was starting to feel the urge to get everything ready for the baby – and getting set up for the big day by looking into childcare options for my toddler.
30 Week Checkup
At 30 weeks pregnant, I had my next checkup. At this point, checkups were scheduled for every other week.
All checked out well, as I expected. Even though these visits are quick since I usually have no questions or concerns, I always feel relieved after, knowing baby is growing well and is heart rate is normal.
In addition to the normal checkup, I also received the flu and Tdap shot. While the flu shot didn’t show any side effects, the arm where the Tdap vaccine was injected got really sore for 1-2 weeks.
And even 3 months later I still feel pain in the injection site. If anyone else has ever experienced this, I would be curious to see how you dealt with this.
Symptoms
Nesting
One of the most fun symptoms that occurs during pregnancy is nesting. And for me this started around 29-30 weeks pregnant.
While I had my baby registry set up for months and had already bought a few things here and there, I suddenly felt the urge to get everything ready.
My husband thought it was way too early, given it could be another 2.5 months before the baby would be here.
Nevertheless, he couldn’t stop my drive, so I started setting up the dresser and changing station, getting all his clothes washed, and sent out the link to our baby registry to our families.
This is definitely the most fun part about pregnancy. You get to prepare your home for your new baby, pick out their clothes, reconfigure the stroller, and look into how to install the car seat.
I may have been early to start getting everything ready. But the experience with my daughter coming early at 37 weeks and me being put on bed rest in the end showed me that I’d rather have everything set up and ready to go sooner rather than later.
Sciatica and SPD pain
While my sciatica pain already started a few weeks ago, at this point it was joined by SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction) pain.
The SPD pain was most notable during walks with my daughter. All of a sudden I would feel really uncomfortable pubic pain, and walking was kind of making it worse.
After a while, it would get better, so I just continued the walks, hoping I wouldn’t do any damage.
The sciatica pain had gotten worse over the last weeks. But I was able to manage it by switching my seating positions when resting on the couch, or laying down. Also, working out and strengthening and stretching my back and leg muscles helped a bit.
Body Changes and Bump Update
From 29-30 weeks pregnant forward, I knew my baby bump would just grow, grow, grow.
Besides a growing belly, not much changed anymore during the last few weeks.
My baby belly was set to grow more and more forward, and I was curious to see whether it would get much bigger than compared to my first pregnancy.
Weight wise, I was on a similar track compared to my first pregnancy, just slightly heavier. The first time around, the weight gain stopped around 34 weeks pregnant, and just stayed more or less the same until the end.
So I was curious to see if I would have a similar experience this time around.
