When we were planning our first trip with our baby, we knew we didn’t want to bring our big stroller. As much as we love it, it’s heavy and bulky and took up all the space of our trunk.
So we decided to look for an alternative stroller that is compact & lightweight, easy to travel with, and comfortable at the same time.
We decided on the Babyzen YOYO² stroller* – and one year later I still think it’s the best purchase we have made!
In this review, we’ll take a closer look at the stroller’s best features and downsides, and why we highly recommend it overall.
About the stroller
The Babyzen YOYO² stroller* is a popular choice among parents for its sleek design and versatile features. It is an easily collapsible stroller and can be used for children from birth onward until they reach a weight of 48.5 lbs or 22 kg.
It comes in a variety of colors and has a ton of accessories you can purchase alongside with the stroller.
Pros – Why the Babyzen YOYO² stroller is worth it
First, let’s talk about the best features.
Lightweight & Compact
One of the standout features of this stroller is its compact size and lightweight design.
It unfolds and folds up easily and has a strap attached to it so it can be carried over your shoulder. This makes it perfect for travel or navigating tight spaces in the city.
It also fits the dimension requirements for carry-on luggage on a plane, which means you can take it right on board with you and don’t need to check it (read more about our best tips on flying with a baby here).
Versatile
Another great feature of the Babyzen YOYO²* is its versatility. It can be used from birth onward with the addition of a bassinet or car seat (sold separately).
The main seat is also quite versatile, as it can be reclined to multiple positions depending on your child’s preference and comfort. The stroller also has a large storage basket, which is a must-have for parents on the go.
Comfortable & Sturdy
I was surprised by how sturdy the stroller is. It’s constructed with high-quality materials and is very durable, which you can feel when pushing the stroller.
The stroller also has a smooth ride, thanks to its four-wheel suspension system. It does really well even on walks around bumpy city streets.
Also, it seems to be quite comfortable. Our daughter napped in it quite a bit while we were out and about, which tells me she must’ve felt very comfortable.
Accessories & Customization
Babyzen provides a ton of accessories to customize the stroller to your needs.
First of all, the stroller comes in a variety of pretty colors. And if you do ever get bored of seeing the same color, you can just purchase another color set and easily switch it up.
One item that is included in the stroller purchase is a travel bag. This makes it even easier to transport and protect the stroller.
Another must for us were the footrest* and the parasol*. The latter one easily attaches to either side of the stroller and provided great protection for our daughter on bright and sunny days.
Cons – Why the Babyzen YOYO² stroller might not be worth it for you
While there are many great features of the Babyzen YOYO²*, there are a few downsides to keep in mind.
Price
One of the biggest downsides is the price. This stroller is definitely on the expensive side, which may not be feasible for all budgets. It might reflect in the quality and sturdiness on the stroller, however it depends on you how important this is and how much you will be using this stroller.
Paying the price for the Babyzen YOYO²* was worth it for us because we knew we’d be traveling with it for six months. And it definitely didn’t disappoint and was therefore one less thing to worry about.
Cost of Accessories
While the stroller alone is quite pricey, so are the accessories that you can buy for it. The fact that not even the footrest is included was a little bit disappointing. And the accessories are not necessarily on the cheap side.
We did buy the original footrest, parasol, as well as the rain and mosquito cover for the stroller, which added another $150. So you definitely need to think about what accessories you might need and whether it fits in your budget.
Luckily, there are other companies selling stroller accessories at a fraction of these prices. We bought e.g. a cup and phone holder, which can be attached to either our big stroller or the Babyzen YOYO²*. You can also get a different parasol that attaches to the travel stroller.
Folding Down takes Practice
While it is quite easy to unfold the stroller, folding it down takes a little bit of practice. My husband an I had to watch tutorials a few times to figure it out and memorize it.
And while it is still easy to fold down once you know how to do it, you definitely need two hands. This means you can’t really do it while holding your baby in your arm. There are other strollers we saw in the store that you could collapse with one hand, which is definitely an advantage.
Conclusion
After using it for now almost one year now, we highly recommend the Babyzen YOYO² stroller* for its compact size, versatile features, and durability.
Even though we have a bigger car now and could easily fit the big stroller, we like keeping the YOYO² *in the trunk so we’re ready to go on any adventure when we’re out and about (read more about tips on planning the perfect trip with a baby here).
It is definitely sturdy and comfortable enough to be a good everyday stroller or main stroller. Especially if you are mainly walking on city streets and not doing much hiking through the woods or on uneven ground.
Also, it is super easy and convenient to travel with and we love not having to worry about whether we need to check the stroller with the luggage or at the gate. Or waiting for it to be unloaded once the plane has landed.
While it may be on the pricey side, it’s a great investment for parents who prioritize ease of use and the convenience it provides to make travel days less stressful.
